Out of all the WiiWare games currently available, there are a handful of games that shine more than all the others. This is one of them.

In Toki Tori, you control a chicken as he travels through four worlds, collecting eggs to complete each level. To do this, you move left and right by pointing in the direction you wish to go (Animal Crossing style), or using the joystick or D-Pad.

The whole game is 2D side scrolling, so there are ladders and enemies littered around the game to add some more depth, but the real genius comes in the form of the multiple items you have at your dispense. These items range from the simple bridge builder, where you can position a small bridge off any ledge, to the teleporter, allowing you to move a set number of spaces in one of the four standard directions. The items are where the puzzle theme really comes into its own, and the fact that most of the time they are limited to a set number or uses gives you a lot more to think about.

Toki Tori can only really be described as a puzzle game, due to the amount of thought required before you move anywhere, but this game can be enjoyed by just about anyone. The vibrant colours and cheerful music make the game look like something for kids, but deep down there is much more to it.

There are a lot of levels available here as well, with ten in each world. Complete each world though, and a set of several more levels become available (each of which are much harder). If you ever do get stuck in a level but want to continue, there is a “wild card” feature, which allows you to skip to the next level. You can only use it once throughout the entire game though, although you can retrieve it for later use by completing the level you originally used the wild card on. In addition to all this, you’ll even receive occasional messages to your Wii Message Board from Toki Tori, and you can invite friends to join in the fun by drawing helpful hints on screen.

Toki Tori is one of the best WiiWare games available, and it has gained this title by coining the perfect mix of puzzling, difficulty and creativity. There are several occasions where you’ll get frustrated over some difficult levels, but give them a shot the next day and you could master them immediately, which is why TT is definitely worth sticking at, because the feeling you get from solving one of these puzzles is one of the best you’ll ever get when playing a game. And that’s some feeling.
