29th April 2009 | Posted by Murat and Billy White In the June edition of Nintendo Power, Red Steel 2 will be the main centre of attraction. It appears as though the Red Steel franchise has taken a ride on the Wild West side this time, with a cel shaded art style, much like XIII (also developed and published by Ubisoft). WiiMotion Plus has been confirmed by Ubisoft, who want to take the franchise to a new direction with improved controls over the original. At the moment, that is almost all that is known about the game, other than that it will still feature a combination of both swordplay and gunfights.

Marvel Vs Capcom 2 Not For WiiWarePSN and Xbox Live will be seeing the Marvel and Capcom universe clash but today it has emerged that the game will not be reaching WiiWare, after Capcom corporate head Christian Svensson stated the file is "too big" for the service. "This is a downloadable play, not a retail play. We don't actually have any retail rights on this project. And there's no way to get anywhere near the WiiWare file size limit here". 29th April 2009 | Posted by Murat
Need For Speed Nitro - first screens and details revealed
In the latest issue of the Spanish NGamer magazine, the first images of Need For Speed: Nitro were showcased, alongside some interesting details. Nitro is said to feature "exaggerated vehicle sizes" and designs, while maintaining its core features such as customizing a large variety of licensed vehicles with all sorts of street designs and accessories. In addition to this, there are new modes which sound quite cool, one of which is called "graffiti", where you'll be able to "paint" the city if you're in the leading position. In addition to this, there are also some new control methods which include a one-handed mode. The game is also said to run at a smooth 60 FPS, and is being developed by EA Montreal for the WIi, and Firebrand for the DS.

ESRB Ratings: Virtual Console and WiiWare Titles Quite a few titles have been rated by the ESRB in the last one or two weeks and needless to say, some are more interesting than others because they confirm that certain games previously only available in Japan will be getting localized for North America and, quite possibly, other regions as well. Let's take a look at these titles.
Virtual Console - Tower Toppler for the Commodore 64 - It's great to see this get confirmed for North America. EU has had this for quite some time now but I'm hoping that we get this very soon because I had set my eyes on getting this.
- Secret Command for the SEGA Master System - EU just got this title in their last VC Update. It's likely that we'll be getting it in the next month or so. Personally, I'd prefer we get it later rather than sooner.
- Star Force for the NES - Since this game already came out on the VCA, it's logical to conclude that this is the NES title, although, I don't understand why they'd see a big need to bring this over.
- Boulder Dash for the Commodore 64 - YES! I hope it comes soon. I'm quite happy to hear this get confirmed.
- Impossible Mission for the Commodore 64 - Another game I'm happy to hear about. It's likely that Impossible Mission 2 will be on its way later on as well.
I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo release all 3 C64 titles in one update. It's interesting to note that Boulder Dash and Impossible Mission got rated not more than a day ago which could be a hint that they are, indeed, coming in either the next update or the update after that. Hopefully this Monday?
WiiWare - Ant Nation - Recently announced by Konami, Ant Nation is a simulation game (with some RTS elements) coming to both the DS and WiiWare, both with different gameplay attributes. When I first heard about it, I couldn’t help but think of Butterfly Garden, another title that’s WiiWare-bound. Anyway, I certainly hope this does better than Sandy Beach… I got a feeling it will, though. The premise sounds like it could turn out to be a great game. Sounds pretty sweet if you ask me. The ESRB Summary gives us a bit of details on what the game's like:
"This is a strategy game in which players create an ant colony, manage the ants, and train them to grow stronger. As master of the colony, players can direct their ants to defeat enemy insects (ladybugs, beetles, spiders) to earn food and gain experience points." The game's rated E10+, by the way. - Fish 'em all - The arcade game that got announced not so long ago must be near finished already! Let's hope Nintendo releases it a bit later though. One part of the ESRB summary is kinda funny: "During the course of the game, a crab can clasp onto the player's head, and the shark can swallow the player with one lunging bite."
- Brain Challenge - Interesting! The WiiWare title by Gameloft seems to be heading to DSiWare and yet they haven't said anything about it yet.
- Adventure Island: New Beginning - EU already has this game as does Japan and since Hudson hasn't released too many games this month, I wouldn't be surprised if it came out in the next update or the first one in May.
- 3-2-1, Rattle Battle! - Just like I predicted, this game Is getting localized! I knew it!
- Gravitronix - No summary on this one but I'm still really happy to see this get rated by the ESRB. It's that much closer to finally releasing!!
DSiWare - Paper Airplane Chase - Known as Paper Plane in EU, it looks like Nintendo decided to dub this game with a new name. Good to know it's coming soon, though as I plan to get it.

Nintendo delivers a slightly-brazen response to Professor Layton 2 Not too long ago, Level-5 announced that all Professor Layton titles will be getting localized for North America. Well, not too long after that, Nintendo responded via a PR with a not-so-friendly response and I can't help but see it as a bit rude. - At this time, that particular game has not been announced by Nintendo for release here in North America. If that should change, the announcement will be posted in our website’s “What’s New” section (www.nintendo.com/whatsnew). Be sure to check here often for all the latest information and announcements. Please remember that Level 5 is another company, and although they may have made an announcement, Nintendo of America has not.
There's only one possible explanation for this type of response. And that is that they plan to reveal this at E3 or soon thereafter.
UPDATE: The Official Nintendo Magazine of Australia and New Zealand has revealed a cover image of their next issue, which states in the corner that they will be looking at "New Prof Layton" - surely the game will be reaching the Western world now? - Billy

Mighty Flip Champs!! coming very soon Mighty Flip Champs!! is coming to the DSiWare service very soon, as confirmed by IGN themselves in their recent impressions of the title: - "WayForward told me that Mighty Flip Champs!! is done, examined and passed through by the ESRB and waiting for the final approval processes by Nintendo so that it can debut on the publisher's DSiWare service. In other words, it should be ready for download in the not-too-distant future."
I have a feeling it'll release in the first update of May after the "launch window" is over or, alternatively, since they're done with most of the standard Nintendo launch titles (save for a few like Moving Memo Pad), they could decide to bump it up and include it within the next update as part of the launch window in April's final update this Monday. Time will tell.

IGN speculates on the next AAA title I decided to take a closer look at their article, speculating as to what the next AAA title will be. They begin by acknowledging something recent, that Gamestop was instructed by Nintendo themselves to make room on the shelves for an upcoming "AAA title" this holiday season. What could it be? Could we be getting more than one title? Time till tell. Until then, let's examine their predictions more closely.
First up, IGN looks at the possibility of a new game featuring Pit, a character who recently re-surfaced in SSBB. - "Thanks to his appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl last year, Pit is once again fresh in the minds of gamers. The time is perfect to capitalize on his resurgence in popularity."
There were reliable rumors circulating that a Kid Icarus game was coming but those thoughts were shot down recently when Factor 5 said they weren't involved in such a project... But could that mean that someone else is overseeing the project?
DK is next on their list and I must say, he is in dire need of an awesome adventure title! - "He helped usher in the Donkey Kong Country franchise, one of the greatest platforming series of the 16-bit era. Since then, we've only really seen one attempt at bringing DK's banana-grabbing adventures into 3D, unless you count all those Donkey Konga games. Donkey Kong 64 was a solid effort, but we think Nintendo can do better."
First off, DK64 was amazing and still stands the test of time. Such an awesome game. Anyways, I for one would absolutely love a 3D Adventure game. I've been craving one for a long time now!
Link's next? Big surprise there... I wholeheartedly agree with their opening words. - "It could be argued that Link is the least deserving of any character on this list. He already had his AAA-level Wii game, plus he'll be starring in his second DS adventure soon. However, it's been two-and-a-half years since Twilight Princess. We're starting to feel the ache for the next big Legend of Zelda experience."
I agree: Link IS the least deserving of another game. There's enough love for him. Let someone else steal the spotlight for once. It's coming in 2010, mark my words. Not this year, next year. There's even evidence to suggest that. And quite frankly, I'm happy for that. That gives Nintendo time to worry about other properties. I'm getting tired of their focus towards Zelda all the time. There ARE other properties, y'know.
Luigi... on this list? Can't people let go of Luigi starring in his own adventure? It was more of a "one-hit wonder", if you will. That's all. - "Luigi has spent far too much time in his brother's shadow. We'd like to think this year will afford him the opportunity to change all that. Heck, why not thrust Luigi into an epic storyline where his fame-hungry sibling is the antagonist."
Umm.. to be honest, I can't see it happening anytime soon but it IS possible. After all, they did switch things up with Super Princess Peach...
Captain Olimar is definitely getting a new title. It's practically already been confirmed. - "One of the newest members of Nintendo's AAA stable, Captain Olimar is crying out for a new adventure on the Wii. The recent remake of the original Pikmin Gamecube game is ample proof Olimar and his colorful helpers are well-suited to the system."
It's coming. Pikmin 3: guaranteed.
Fox for sure. He definitely deserves a spot on this list, don't you agree? - "Nintendo has two approaches to capturing Fox McCloud's life these days. There's the familiar dogfighting of the traditional Star Fox games, or the Zelda-esque quest we saw in Star Fox Adventures."
Guarantee you it's coming. Evidence suggests that it's already been in development but Nintendo hasn't come forward just yet. Whatever they're planning secretly, I'm really hoping for online foot battles. That would be awesome. Even with Wii Speak, also.
Samus again? I doubt it honestly, especially after Corruption. - "Metroid Prime 3: Corruption was an oasis of gaming goodness for parched gamers. Now, the previous two entries in the Prime series are being ported to the Wii, but is that enough for Samus?"
Honestly, it IS enough. Like Link, Nintendo should focus less on this property and focus on other things since it already gets enough love.
Save the best for last -- Mario turns up as the last entry in their feature. What do they have to say about his chances? - "We've pointed out several times now that a new Mario game is unlikely, given how recently we were graced with Super Mario Galaxy. That doesn't mean we can't all hope for one anyway. When it comes to the gaming industry, there is no character more AAA-level than Mario... Maybe the time has come to bring Mario (and Luigi, of course) back to the Mushroom Kingdom for a new adventure that channels all the classic fun of the NES and SNES games."
I can see something happening at E3. There's a lot of reason to suggest it. But I honestly hope other things get more of a spotlight than Mario (e.g., Pikmin 3).
What gets to me is that there's no mention of Kirby or Captain Falcon/F-Zero series at all on this list. Unless they know something we don't... But anyway, as for Kirby's Wii iteration, we could get information on this year; I'm still waiting to hear an official confirmation on F-Zero Z (tentative name) since, like Starfox, there's reason to suggest that it's in development already.
What do you think of this list? Feel free to express yourself!

Skype technically possible with the DSi Recently a representative from Skype commented on their plans for the future and even included a tidbit of info on the DSi's capabilities: - “Skype is extending its lead with a focus on rapid innovation, which delivers the new features and products people want, and by integrating Skype software and services into other open platforms with recent examples including the Skype application for the iPhone and iPod Touch, Intel-based MIDs, Nokia N97, and a Lite version of Skype for Java-enabled mobile phones. Whilst we can’t comment on any future plans to bring Skype to Nintendo’s DSi, it would technically be possible.”
However, soon thereafter a Nintendo rep in the Uk was contacted about this and rather than replying with the typical "we don't answer to rumors and/or speculation", they replied with this comment: - “We have no plans to release a Skype application for Nintendo DS or DSi.”
Could they just be covering their tracks? Could they actually be planning on releasing an app in the near future? Time will tell but honestly, I see it very likely.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen getting DLC As confirmed by MTV's Multiplayer Blog, the upcoming game "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" (based on the movie of the same title) will be released on multiple consoles including the Wii and DS systems. It's been stated that the game will, indeed, include downloadable content of some sort (possibly in the vein of unlockable characters and possibly new stages).Only thing is, we don't know if this DLC is planned for the Wii version. - "An Activision representative told me that the company has a “healthy DLC [downloadable content] plan which will incorporate more characters.” This is part of Activision’s intent to offer the largest Transformer character ever seen in a game based on the franchise. I didn’t ask, but it is likely that many of these new characters would be offered as paid DLC rather than as free. That’s been the business model employed successfully by Activision and other publishers for new content in “Guitar Hero,” “Rock Band,” “Halo” and more. The Activision rep wouldn’t tell me... if the DLC was for the PS3/360 version only or also for the Wii, PC and portable versions..."
More details on this as it surfaces.

Look out for the next Mario Party entry soon There's much reason to suggest that the next Mario Party will be revealed soon, quite possibly at E3 2009, which is why I decided to re-examine this article from a while back in preparation for E3's launch in a short few weeks. Based on past entries (much like Zelda), it would suggest that this year, in 2009, we're getting the next Mario Party fix. - “Mario Party” has never had a two year absence before. So if we didn’t get one in 2008, then chances are good that we’re getting one in 2009."
The article brings out something that really is a great idea I'd like to draw your attention to: - "I’ve had a theory that Nintendo could do good business changing the series mini-game/party-game formula by making a “Mario Party” Wii Channel. Instead of selling a boxed game, the company could offer new mini-games for download and online play every week."
What an awesome idea!! Even now, the idea of a WiiWare version would be quite feasible. Give the article a read. It's not that long but it's interesting how they arrived at the logical conclusion.
So what would you like to see in the next one? I'm personally hoping for Balance Board support and Online Play. But do you think Wii Speak would work well for Mario Party? Well the author of another article seems to think so. Whereupon questioning the whereabouts of "Mario Party 9", they had this to say: - "And now that games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii have tested the Wi-Fi waters, a new Mario Party installment that features an online party mode is a neccesity. With the inclusion of Wii Speak to communicate with friends (and hopefully strangers) Mario Party online would make this quite possibly the most fun title ever. That's not an exaggeration."
Not only that, but what about other peripherals such as Wii Motion Plus, the Wii Zapper and the Wii Wheel? - "New peripherals such as the Balance Board and Wii Zapper have debuted, introducing new innovative ways to play games on the Wii. Both could enhance the mini game selection and help to add a nice variety to the table. Instead of waggling through each event, you could have a snowboarding duel between Yoshi and Peach down the slopes. And forget about Link's Crossbow Training, how about Toad versus Luigi at a saloon, in a western-style shoot 'em up. Even this Spring's debut of Wii Motion Plus will help diversify the types of mini games Nintendo can offer."
I personally wouldn't be surprised if this was one of the titles that Nintendo has made arrangements to reveal it at E3. This could also be the "big title" that's coming where GameStop was asked to "clear their shelves" for! How can Nintendo release a winning formula in a series that has been around for quite some time, the end of the article summarizes it nicely. Rather than having mini-game in Mario Party 8 where the Wii Remote's capabilities weren't used to their fullest capabilities, all they have to do is this: - "My hope is that Nintendo is taking their time with it, and saving the game for this year's E3, to show off all the new features the game will host. I can't think of many other titles that have eight installments and still sell well. Adding new modes, new levels, new control schemes and an indepth Wi-Fi mode with Wii Speak capabilities is all Nintendo has to do."
E3 is right around the corner! Let's hope "Mario Party 9" (or whatever the next Mario Party is called) gets announced!!

Additional response to Bruiser & Scratch sales Steel Penny Games spoke with IGN further about the sales of their game and in so doing, they've revealed a bit more about how they feel about the game's sales numbers. - "We were one of the early indie development houses to sign on with Nintendo to do WiiWare, and at the time, nobody knew what kind of crowd would surface to buy games there. It was very exciting, and to know there were 20 million or so Wii units in the world at that time meant that the market had incredible potential. So, we went forward with a design that I thought would appeal to the typical Wii user. In hindsight, to my horror, this was all wrong. The typical Wii user doesn't have any idea that the Wii can connect to the internet. The crowd that gravitates toward WiiWare is actually fairly hardcore, and a very small segment overall. In essence, we're trying to sell lemonade in a biker bar."
I hope this experience hasn't discouraged them, though. B&S had a lot of good ideas and I would love to see these carried over to future titles produced by Steel Penny Games. Hopefully, now that they've had more time and experience with WiiWare seeing what the service is capable of and what the competition is like, this will motivate them to sign on for another title just with a different mindset.

Virtua Tennis 2009 on Wii not gimped at all Basically, according to this recent hands-on, Virtua Tennis 2009 on Wii is the exact same as PS3, 360 and even the PC version, and yes, this includes the various online modes that they've worked to incorporate in as well. - "…the Wii version has 100 per cent of the content and modes of the PS3, 360 and PC releases, online included."
That's great to hear especially since SEGA Superstars Tennis, Sumo Digital's last project, was slightly gimped in that the 360 and PS3 versions had online whereas the Wii did not due to supposed "time constraints" and this was very frustrating for people like myself. In any case, it's great to hear this! I hope that if SEGA Superstars Tennis is to get a sequel (and I'm sure it will) it will have online play especially after all the experience they have now with Nintendo's servers and such. Not to include it would be simply inexcusable.

Furry Legends devs acknowledge community feedback A developer of the upcoming WiiWare platformer, Furry Legends, has made some interesting comments with regards to the feedback they have received on the art direction they have been using. On many sites, even on Nintendo Life (formerly known as WiiWare World), there were comments expressing how similar Furry Legends looked to LostWinds. Low and behold these comments did not go unnoticed. One of the developers reported this to N-Europe: - "We listen to the community at large. When we have released our first screenshots, all we could read around the net was 'OMGZ, this is LostWinds ripoff, burn!'. So, yeah, that wasn't a very good signal. We went back to the drawing board to figure out when this art style sneaked up on us... so we scrapped some of the design, remodelled some things and changed the mood."
It's nice to see that not only did they acknowledge the feedback they initially received but they actually went back and fixed it, making it more unique. It's great to see how willing they are to make changes to please the community. Hopefully the game will generate enough sales helped in part by this new design decision.

House of the Dead: Overkill sequel possible Neil McEwan, one of the supervisors heading the project had a few interesting tidbits to share with ONM. He said: - "I can’t really say but when we were working on our characterisation for Agent G and Washington we gave them a backstory and because we feel a lot of love for these characters we worked out where they went after Overkill. So there’s definitely still scope in the Overkill universe.”
Within the same article, there's made mention of the fact that they were so uncertain about the excess use of profanity within the game so much so that at one point they had considered "bleeping it out" or taking it out altogether but apparently it worked out for the better that they stuck with it, according to what he said.

Q&A with Battle Rage devs reveals upcoming new technology
This was taken from an official interview via a press release that discusses certain things about the 3D aspect of Battle Rage: Robot Wars. One portion of the interview, though, is particularly noteworthy: - "...the press feedback we’ve had since announcing the technology has been exceptionally positive so it’s very clear to us that the market is ready for the ‘next big thing’. We’ve invested considerable time, cost and manpower into both engine-side technology and peripheral technology, to make immersive 3D titles and BattleRage will be just the first to reap the rewards of this investment. Other titles include games for all ages, styles and genres. We have just applied for patents on new technology using the Wii motion sensing devices to detect your head movements so not only can you see in 3D you can actually move around in 3D. Tilting your head will look around objects or moving closer to the screen will view the objects close up and the player will move around a world by just looking in the direction they want to move. It is very close to virtual…. reality a sort of 3D-VR simulation device, but I’m afraid that at this stage I’m bound by NDA so can’t talk too much about those, sorry!"
So he's bound by NDA and yet he's already said enough to wet our appetites. Nice. Anyway, I could definitely see this happening.

Two more New Play Control! titles coming to Japan on June 11 Siliconera confirms for us that Japan will be getting two new titles on June 11as part of the New Play Control! series - Metroid Prime 2 and Chibi-Robo. We already know how Metroid Prime 2 will be like but what about Chibi-Robo? How will it control? That's a burning question on my mind right now. Not only that, but when are we going to hear that Chibi-Robo is, indeed, coming to NA? I mean, there's no reason for it not to but at the same time, it still would be nice to get an official confirmation that they do have plans to bring it over here as well because that's a game I'd definitely get since I never got a chance to try it myself and I've personally been told good things about it.

IGN speaks about VC release schedule In a recent review for a VC game, IGN highlights something that's been bugging me for weeks and s such, I feel its noteworthy enough for a post all on its own. They actually worded it quite well. - "Nintendo announces the arrival of the Commodore 64 on the Virtual Console -- and then drops support for the system after four games. Nintendo then announces the debut of the Virtual Console Arcade -- and, again, drops support for that after four games. I'm sure we'll eventually see more releases for both of those VC categories eventually, but the timing of Nintendo's Console releases has been broken for far too long. You can't hype up new systems and make surprise launches and then not follow-up. It's ridiculous. It wouldn't be so bad if the games we were getting in the meanwhile were worthwhile, but, really, more repetitive Wonder Boy? A game that's already been released before, in a better version, and that's the only new game this week? And its price has even been inflated? Nintendo, seriously. You've really lost the faith of nearly everyone who originally supported the Virtual Console at this point. You've got to get it together and start giving the people what they want -- and what they want is not more Wonder Boy."
This is, more or less, exactly how I've been feeling for some time now and it's getting me very upset. Just when I thought the VC releases would continue to improve, Nintendo takes a spin and goes back to the duds again. Maybe the release of the 300th game will get their minds re-adjusted? If they truly do listen to us, they could be planning something big (i.e., multiple titles?) to make up for the painful weeks of releases we've had since 2009 began for WiiWare and Virtual Console alike. And it's true that they really have lost a lot of VC supporters simply because they're fed up with the VC releases. It's frustrating to not only have the releases so unpredictable but also to wait in eager anticipation for a title only to see a dud get added in its place. Nintendo has a bit longer to get their act together before I completely change my mind about how I feel about their release schedules - because up until now, I've been very patient with them but patient does have its limits.

Explanations given for the delay of Little King's Story It's good to hear Marvelous come forward and give information about the delay for this highly-anticipated game. Many have been put off by the delay and have wondered why they've decided to bump it a few more months. Here's why: - "The development team wants to make sure that Little King’s Story is as perfect as possible, that’s why quality is not being spared in order to rush the title out. Believe me, this title will be worth the wait…it’s amazing."
It's nice to hear them putting such dedication into the title to make sure it turns out "amazing". I for one am looking forward to this game very much and to hear that they're delaying it to ensure that the game is "as perfect as possible" can only mean great things!

Deca Sports 2 has online play Online confirmed! Two recent previews from not too long ago confirm it. Smart move, HUDSON! If you can do it with Deca Sports, what's to stop you from doing something with the next Mario Party iteration? It's very obvious from your recent efforts that you may have something up your sleeve.... - Due to the massive popularity of sports games on Wii, the demand for in-game variety and online gameplay has never been greater... With online play and 10 new sporting events, we believe DECA SPORTS 2 will delight fans and new players alike.”
- "...here's a good reason why they included Tennis in the game -- Deca Sports 2 supports Wi-Fi. Only Tennis and Ice Hockey can go online, though. Hudson is working on getting some of the other games to work online before the game is released, and there will be leaderboards as well. Multiplayer will also range from two to four players depending on the game. "

Crystal Defenders R1 (WiiWare) is different from other versions This examination was back in March but given the fact that the game just came out in North America, I thought it would be nice to bring this up again. Here's a small portion from a Siliconera article compiled in March. - While Crystal Defenders is an Xbox Live Arcade game it stills looks and feels like a mobile phone game. The sprites are larger, but the framerate is choppy. When you hold down the right bumper to speed the game up it’s noticeable. Square Enix also developed a version of Crystal Defenders for WiiWare and strangely its presentation was upgraded to include a visual map between waves. You don’t get that on Xbox Live Arcade. Stages are chosen through lackluster menus. On the other hand the WiiWare version is more expensive and has less levels so there is a tradeoff there.
This article goes on to explain some of the differences between the 360 version and the Wii version.

Did you know? The Conduit almost used Wii Motion Plus
In commemoration of The Conduit's upcoming release, I decided to take a look at this piece of information I uncovered many weeks ago. When asked about their design choices and decisions in an interview from Destructoid, they had this to say with regards to their development experiences: - "We were really excited about Wii MotionPlus; we got the kits when everyone else got them — actually a little bit before. We were really excited, going back and forth with Nintendo on how to integrate this and what the best use for it was. But when we actually implemented it, it really didn’t bring that much to the table. It really felt like a bit of a gimmick. The other things in the game had been built from the ground up to take advantage of the Wii Remote. This just felt way too tacked on. We didn’t have a lot of melee weapons to take advantage of it; actually, we had no melee weapons. So we tried to scramble a little bit: “Oh, are we going to try to tack on a melee weapon?” We played around with that. To be real honest, it just felt like a cop-out. From day one, our mantra has always been, “If we’re not doing it right, don’t do it.”... Let’s not lie to our fan base and say, ‘Hey Wii MotionPlus,’ just to use it as a bullet point on a box. Unlike Wii Speak, we plug that in and it works great. It’s really cool to be able to trash talk with your buddies online. But maybe for a future version we’ll revisit [Wii MotionPlus], and if we can build something around it that makes sense."
Interesting. Kudos to them for not forcibly including it. It'll do fine without it anyway. I love how they even say they don't wanna tack it on for the sake of saying they used WM+ so as to draw more attention but instead, they stick with what they got and develop the game for their alleged "fan base". :P This shows signs of good development and proper decision-making. High Voltage Software just got more respect points in my books.

Online features may not be implemented in DSiWareEXCLUSIVE According to Nic Watt of Nnooo (of Pop fame), the upcoming Pop DSiWare game Pop Plus Solo will sadly not be featuring the online modes that the original WiiWare game sported. In fact, he wasn't even sure if the option for online modes on the DSi was available in the first place. Here's what he had to say when we asked him about the possibility of an online mode. - We will not be including online leaderboards in Pop+ Solo. Currently it is not clear if Nintendo will be offering all of the Nintendo WiFi connectivity to DSiWare titles
That doesn't sound too promising, but on the up-side, the game has now been PEGI rated for Europe, and is hopefully due to be sent off to Nintendo for testing within the next two weeks.

Excitebots: Trick Racing launches in North America! The sequel to Excite Truck is hitting retailers in North America today and as such, a new press release has been issued to mark this occasion. You can read the full press release below. The PR actually makes mention of something we hadn't heard about too much before, and that is the fact that ghost data can be shared amongst Wii Friends via WC24 a la MKWii for Time Attack purposes. Nice touch!

Made in Ore - DS and WiiWare footage! I've uncovered some footage on YouTube of Made in Ore, the upcoming WarioWare game that's salted for a dual, inter-connected DS and WiiWare release. There are some vids previewing Jimmy T's and 9-Volt's mini-games as well as some of the creation aspects of the game. There's even one video showing off the WiiWare version a bit with a slightly humorous intro to Wario's selection of microgames. I'm really looking forward to this game, myself and I can't wait to hear its release date (maybe at E3?) but until then, enjoy these videos!

Fatal Frame IV not coming to North America
Uh oh... Tecmo has revealed that Fatal Frame IV will not be getting localized for the North America region, resulting in a rage from many who had hoped it would see the light of day over here. Many stories have emerged since then, but this is where it all started from: - Nintendo holds the publishing rights to ‘Fatal Frame Wii,’ which was developed by Tecmo LTD. and Grasshopper Manufacture and released in Japan on July 31, 2008. Nintendo of America has since then decided not to publish the title in North America – consequently, the title will not be released in this territory. As the owner of the IP, Tecmo feels very unfortunate that the fans of the series in North America will not have a chance to play the game, but respects the final decision made by Nintendo of America.
Apparently, despite the fact that not even a a week before, Denise had stated that NoA should not be labelled as the one to blame for games that don't get localized in NA and now, this surfaces. This has caused much frustration on the part of hardcore gamers who had strongly hoped it would get localized. In response to this, IGN has stated in their recent podcast that Reggie has since stated that they do not hold the publishing rights of Fatal Frame IV, contrary to what Tecmo is saying. So the question is: Who's to blame? Who do you believe more? And do you think that there's still hope for this title to come to North America. Keep in mind, too, that Monster Hunter was declined for localization in North America and then weeks later, it got approved. Maybe that could be the case here? We'll have to wait and see.

Strong Bad sees great success after the SD Card Update! Since the major storage solution has been making its way to Wii-owners around the world, Telltale has noticed that sales of the Strong Bad games on the WiiWare service have increased exceedingly and in such a small time frame, too! The game's sales have "more than doubled" ever since the SD Card update was made available - an amazing feat enough to warrant a full press release! Because of this massive rush in sales, Telltale has revealed that more WiiWare games (whether it be Strong Bad or other projects - Wallace & Gromit anyone?) are on the way. - “We’re looking forward to even greater success on WiiWare with Strong Bad, as well as other projects.”
This is wonderful news! See below for the full press release.

Boxart Update (NA): Big League Sports Summer Sports
Big League Sports is getting a sequel during the second quarter entitled Big League Sports Summer. A quick look at Metacritic reveals that the original game didn't do that well, shown by the fact that the game has only been reviewed by two critics, both of which highly discourage a purchase of the original game. But it seems like the game is, indeed, selling despite the critical response so it could be more enjoyable than one would think judging from these impressions alone. A quick look at VG Chartz also shows that the game hasn't sold well at all, even if these are unofficial numbers. It's interesting to see Activision still decide to pull out a sequel for this game, perhaps thinking that this one will do better and improve on the flaws of the first game.

Nintendo Channel on DSi, more rewards for Club Nintendo? A portion of a 1UP Interview with Cammie Dunaway reveals some of the potentially forthcoming plans of NoA with regards to the DSi and Club Nintendo. - [T]o do something like the Nintendo Channel on DSi. That's something we've talked about. It's an interesting idea.
When asked about the next wave of Club Nintendo rewards for North America, Cammie had this to add: - [W]e're always looking for new Club Nintendo rewards! We just brought a new guy on to manage the program, who I'm very excited about. It's a program that we think has a whole lot of potential... one of the things that we did was give Club Nintendo premium members a chance to preview the DSi early at GameStop, so we're going to keep looking for those kind of surprising things to do to reward our most loyal fans.
It'll be interesting to see a Nintendo Channel variant on the DSi and to see new rewards for Club Nintendo soon, such as the Golden Wii Wheel that Japan got last year which caused many in other regions to become jealous.

Midway working on Game Party 3 Can you believe that the original game's alleged "success" has spawned a third entry in the Game Party series? Obviously, the game must have some fans and surely the low price point helps to ensure its sales. Either way, it's interesting to hear that they're working on Game Party 3.
We expect our 2009 releases to include This Is Vegas, a lifestyle action experience game, for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC; Game Party 3, the third installment of this successful franchise, for the Wii; and other as-yet-unannounced titles for multiple platforms.
Rather than focusing on releasing new packages with slightly different games, they should work on the common complaints of the past two titles to get it out of the "shovelware" rut.

Drill Sergeant Mindstrong site launches Drill Sergeant Mindstrong gets its own site... how interesting. It's not too often WiiWare games get a whole site for their upcoming release. XSEED's site confirms that the game is heading to North America for 800 Points and as was mentioned before, unless Nintendo changes something in their schedule, the game is coming out this month in NA for a certainty.

Big showing planned for The Conduit High Voltage software is planning a multiplayer unveiling on Thursday, April 15th to show off to inquiring minds what the multiplayer will be like. Here's the quote from a recent interview: - [O]n April 15th we’re going to have a big multiplayer event. Press event extravaganza to basically call everybody into the room and say: “O.k. You’ve all been wanting to see multiplayer play, multiplayer etc., here it is”. That will all happen on the 15th. We’re not planning on hiding anything.
Sounds good. It'll put inquiring minds to rest a bit as many have been asking how they've approached multiplayer online.

LIT coming to Europe this summer Looks like LIT, the surprise hit on the WiiWare service, will be coming to Europe "early this summer" during the second quarter. The press release acknowledges that since it's February release this year, LIT has gained a "cult following" and because of the "overwhelmingly positive" response by both fans and critics alike, they have been motivated to release it outside of North America. It's nice to know this game is coming to other regions as many have been asking for it.

Diner Dash confirmed to feature online play!
A recent preview of the upcoming WiiWare iteration of the popular casual game, Diner Dash, has revealed that the game will feature Wi-Fi support, something that was previously unknown up until this point. Here's the quote from the preview that confirms online play:
- Up to 8 players can go at it online, but if you’re feeling anti-social you can drown yourself in endless-shift mode to see how long you survive.
That's very ambitious of them to feature 8-player online play in a game like this. Let's hope it turns out well!

Boxart Update (NA): Grand Slam Tennis
The cover for EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis features tennis stars John McEnroe, Roger Federer and Serena Williams, and promises eight additional "regional player partnerships" for the game itself. Most notably, Serena Williams has become "the first woman to grace the cover of an EA SPORTS simulation product"! That must be very exciting for her! Here's what she had to say about her recent product placement:
It’s very exciting to be on the cover of EA SPORTS Grand Slam Tennis. This game not only shows EA’s enthusiasm for tennis but for also women’s tennis. I know from experience how tough and gratifying it is to win all four Grand Slams so I hope people will enjoy the Grand Slam experience that is offered in this game.
Interestingly, the press release also claims that the game will retail for an MSRP of $49.95 instead of $49.99. Yay for saving us money - even if it is only 4 cents! See below for the full press release.

Club Nintendo (NA) - Coins earned for Registering DSi
In North America, Nintendo has made it available so that you can earn 160 coins on Club Nintendo for registering your DSi and linking it to your Club Nintendo account. That's a lot of coins! And it's great to see that hardware can earn you coins now although it begs the question as to why you couldn't do this with your DS Lite. Maybe it's just an added reason to convince people to get a DSi?
