ESRB Ratings: Tales of Monkey Island Episode 2, Wonder Boy III, a potential DSiWare game

posted 20 Aug 2009 06:56 by Knuckles Sonic8
The game just came out so it should be of little surprise to see Tales of Monkey Island's second chapter/episode get rated by the ESRB. The summary adds this (and possibly even includes a bit of a spoiler):
  • "This is an adventure game in which players follow the exploits of the pirate Guybrush Threepwood as he searches for three golden artifacts representing speed, strength, and stamina. The majority of gameplay involves interacting with pirates, exploring islands and rooms, and following the irreverent storyline. In one sequence, the central character comments "nice cans" as he looks at a string of large tin cans and a drawing of a voluptuous woman. In another sequence, a mysterious foe cuts off a man's hand prior to a swordfight. Bottles labeled "grog" are depicted in one scene and mentioned briefly in the dialogue (e.g., "I've taken down some of the most hardened grog-guzzling scumbags"). The expletive "damn" can be heard in dialogue as well."

Battle of the Giants: Dragons - Bronze Edition by Ubisoft has shown up specifically for "Nintendo DSi" but they are developing a similar game (Battle of the Giants: Dragons) for the DS. It's likely that they're going on the same route as Gameloft, bringing retail DS titles to DSiWare. Or, this could simply be a mini-version of the game, who knows. For now, though, it's become apparent in the last few ratings that Ubisoft is indeed heading towards digital distribution through WiiWare and DSiWare and that fact alone should give us some excitement. The only WiiWare title Ubisoft brought forth was Protothea back when WiiWare launched in NA and that didn't fare too well. Since then, nothing from them has surfaced but the last few ratings show that they are planning to release some titles in the next little while. Here's the summary for this interesting game:
  • "This is an action/role-playing game in which players use a drawing-based fighting system to control dragons in one-on-one battles. Players follow a series of on-screen prompts to initiate many of the more frenetic battle sequences: tail-whip attacks, head butts, scratching, fire- breathing, claw slashes, and biting are displayed in the form of short animations. Most of the fighting is accompanied by realistic combat sound effects (e.g., punching, projectiles thrown, and dragons hitting the ground). Some fighting sequences include close-up shots of damaging hits; shaking screen effects; and more protracted turn-based battle."

And it looks like SEGA is at it again, bringing yet another Wonder Boy game to the Virtual Console. This time, it's Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap, likely referring to the SEGA Master System original, widely-regarded to be one of the best games for the system! Now this is a Wonder Boy game worth adding! The game's been arted Everyone with "Mild Cartoon Violence" and (one) "Tobacco Reference". The summary says:
  • "This is a 2D adventure game in which players traverse through a large castle filled with obstacles and small enemy creatures. As players navigate the side-scrolling environments, they can spit out fire, shoot arrows and boomerangs, and use a sword to poke at enemies, causing them to blink and disappear. On one password screen, a pirate pig is depicted holding a lit cigarette."
It begs the question, though, if SEGA's game will be appearing in the next update before the other two Super Star Wars game arrive. And it also makes us wonder what other VC games SEGA is bringing over soon since this is the second title they've slated for release this month (possibly to coincide with the 20th Anniversary of the SEGA Genesis).
