Nintendo misspells WarioWare game title on Nintendo Channel Interview

posted 19 Jun 2009 13:33 by Billy White   [ updated 20 Jul 2010 20:21 by Knuckles Sonic8 ]

Picture taken with DSi camera, hence not-so-great quality

In today's UK Nintendo Channel update, Nintendo have slipped up by using the wrong name for their WarioWare game on the Wii. In a chat with Jamie Cullum (I don't know him, either), the video title claimed that he was talking about WarioWare Smooth Grooves, rather than the game's actual name "Smooth Moves". Oops! In the interview, the celebrity (?) just called the game WarioWare, so we can only pin the blame on Nintendo for this one.

In more Nintendo Channel news, the only other noticable updates today are downloadable DS demos of Classic Word Games and My Cooking Coach.

DSiWare Sales Chart - 19/6

posted 19 Jun 2009 10:29 by Billy White   [ updated 19 Jun 2009 13:31 ]

Here we are again, another week, another DSiWare chart. I was going to post it tomorrow night before today's new release, however internet problems prohibited me from doing so, but from the games that I managed to see before my connection cancelled out, only a couple of games swapped positions by one place, so you haven't missed anything.
Below, you can see the complete list of twenty games in the UK DSi Shop's Popular Games list as of Friday 19th June.

Position) (Previous) Game title    (Price - developer)
N/A) (18) Art Style: CODE (500 points - Nintendo)

20) (17) Art Style: AQUITE (500 points - Nintendo)
18) (16) Mixed Messages (500 points - Activision)
17) (11) Art Style: PiCOPiCT (500 points - Nintendo)
16) (9) Art Stle NEMREM (500 points - Nintendo)
15) (14) A Little Bit of... Magic Made Fun: Deep Psyche (200 points - Nintendo)
14) (15) A Little Bit of... Magic Made Fun: Funny Face (200 points - Nintendo)
13) (12) A Little Bit of... Magic Made Fun: Shuffle Games (200 points - Nintendo)
12) (13) Real Football 2009 (800 points - Gameloft)
11)NEW SUDOKU 150! For Challengers (500 points - Hudson)

10) (7) Pop Superstar Road to Celebrity (800 points - Gameloft)
9) (6) A Little Bit of... Dr Mario (500 points - Nintendo)
8) (10) Art Style: KUBOS (500 points - Nintendo)
7) (4) Pyoro (200 points - Nintendo)
6) (3) WarioWare Snapped (500 points - Nintendo)
5) (8) Animal Crossing Calculator (200 points - Nintendo)
4)NEW Asphalt 4: Elite Racing (800 points - Gameloft)
3) (2) Paper Plane (200 points - Nintendo)
2) (5) Animal Crossing Clock (200 points - Nintendo)
1) (1) Internet Browser (Free - Opera)

Asphalt 4 has gone straight up to number four after it's release last week, whilst the Animal Crossing goodies continue to climb the charts, presumably due to their universal brand and cheap pricing. Meanwhile, many titles drop a few spots this week as well, whilst Hudson's first DSiWare title enters at a respectable position with the first of two Sudoku games due to be released from the team. Whilst KUBOS rises, NEMREM and PiCOPiCT fall a surprising amount of spaces, whilst we bid farewell to one of the better DSiWare releases so far, Art Style: CODE, which has become the first game to lose a spot in the top twenty. Next week, we'll see how Brain Training fares in comparison to the other casual titles, despite the 800 point price.

WiiWare / DSiWare games: 19th June 2009 (EU)

posted 19 Jun 2009 09:37 by Billy White

It's Friday, and it's time for the new releases on the Wii Shop Channel and DSi Shop - today, we have Dr Kawashima with some more Brain Training, this time looking at Maths, whilst allowing you to have a quick game of Germ Buster as well (perfect for those of you who wanted a DSi special version of Dr Mario) at 800 Nintendo Points, a 2D platform adventure game set in Ancient Greece on WiiWare, and a game where your main objective is to throw and catch a ball.
Both WiiWare games, Icarian and Let's Catch, are 1000 points apeice, and if you're unsure whether or not to buy Let's Catch or not, KnucklesSonic8 reviewed it earlier this week with a disappointing 19/30. You can read the full review here, and don't forget to look out for reviews of the other two games here soon, on Wiiloveit.com!

5 spots Party announced for WiiWare, gets ESRB rating

posted 18 Jun 2009 06:30 by Knuckles Sonic8

An upcoming WiiWare game that was recently just announced has already been rated by the ESRB -- could we see this popping up sooner than we thought? The gameplay resembles that of QuickSpot on the DS where one must find noticeable and not-so-noticeable differences between two pictures. The game will also have other features and modes to add variety. The ESRB summary had this to say:
  • "This is a puzzle game in which players must spot five differences between two versions of the same image. Players are rewarded for quickly and completely finding all the differences."
You can check out the press release for the game below as well.

5 Spots Party - Press Release

Genre: Puzzle
Players: 1 to 4
Release: 2nd Quarter 2009
Size: 36 Mb
Distribution: WiiWare™
Rating: ESRB: E, PEGI: +3
Release Countries: Europe, Americas, Australia

5 Spots Party is the first development by CosmonautGames, which will initially be distributed exclusively through Nintendo’s WiiWare™ service.

5 Spots Party is based on a successful “Casual” game that reached number 1 in sales for three weeks on the RealArcade game site. This development for Nintendo has placed special emphasis on playability through the Wii Remote™, and a special mode was added for this platform that enables up to 4 players to compete.

The game is based on the popular pastime of finding differences between two photos. There are three different modes and different playing options for one or more players.

The following playing modes are available:

Super Fun Classic
1 Player: The game consists in finding 5 differences between two photos in the allotted amount of time. To do so, the Wii Remote™ pointer is used to select the mistakes. Each time a pair of photos is completed, the player goes on to the next level. Each level is more complicated than the last, since there is less time given to complete it. The player is given 5 wild cards that help complete the level.

The player is rewarded with additional wild cards after a certain number of levels. 2, 3 and 4 Players (Party): The game consists in finding 5 differences between two photos before the
rest of the players in the game. This mode has several levels, and the player who finds the most number of differences wins.

Find The Monkey
1 Player: Unlike the previous mode, in this game there is just one photo that contains different images of hidden or camouflaged monkeys. The game consists in finding 5 monkeys in each photo to go on to the next level. Once again, time regulates the difficulty of the game, and it is shorter with each new level.

2, 3 and 4 Players (Party): The game consists in finding 5 pictures of monkeys before the rest of the players. The player who finds more monkeys that the rest of the opponents throughout a series of levels wins.

Leisure
The Leisure mode is only available for one player and it is based on Super Fun Classic, but without the time limit for finding the 5 differences. In this mode, the player can play short games (there are just 5 levels) and try to beat the highest scores in the record table.

Key Features
The most relevant game features, which make 5 Spots Party so exceptional and addictive, are the following:

• For All Ages. Everyone can play. It is fun to play alone or in a group.
• Fun Photos. The photos are funny and varied, and the players enjoy their content.
• Surprising Mistakes. We have worked with over 6 different types of errors (shape, size, colour, arrangement, existence and distortion), and we have designed different difficulties.
Many of the mistakes used boost the original photo.
• Number of Photos. The game consists of over 300 photographs of different subjects and types. From landscapes to drawings, as well as everyday shapes or scenes, the variety of
subjects has been a key point in the development of the game.
• Number of Mistakes. We have worked very hard to ensure a very long playing time with very little repetition. To do so, we created special algorithms that make it nearly impossible to
repeat the same differences in the same photo. The game includes 333 photos and, although we show just 5 differences in each one, internally we have developed up to 10 different mistakes that are displayed on-screen in very different ways.
• Simplicity. The player controls the game in just a few seconds. We have also designed a variety of features to boost playability. For example, the mistakes can be selected in either
the left or right photo, the double cursor was enabled to make it easier to highlight the mistakes, and player aids have been implemented, such as controller vibration when the
players are near mistakes.

ESRB Ratings: Toribash

posted 18 Jun 2009 06:26 by Knuckles Sonic8

The developers of Toribash did say that the game is well under way and close to being finished so it's of little surprise that the ESRB rating pops up. The game's been rated T for Teen after all and the summary cites such descriptors as Animated Blood and Fantasy Violence. Here's the summary:
  • "In this turn-based fighting game, combat occurs on a white rotating plane against an equally white backdrop. Players control a 3D model composed of boxes/cylinders for limbs and spheres for joints. Players manipulate the models' joints to execute a series of fight moves against another "ragdoll" model. Some hits cause opponents' joints to become disjointed from the main body, resulting in cracking or squishing sounds. Multi-colored splashes of blood are emitted from joints that are disconnected."
