I logged into the system today to find a whole slew of Post-Play surveys stemming from Wii/DSi Shop Downloads in the last little while. That's when I thought something was up: I just got You, Me and the Cubes last week and it's already in my to-do list? How can that be? Normally, it would take 4 weeks or more for the post-play survey to appear. After doing some digging, I've uncovered that Nintendo has secretly updated the Club Nintendo system and has made it so that post-play surveys arrive at a faster rate. In connection with this, they've also updated the FAQ according under the "Product Registration" section, as shown below:
Wii Shop Channel games and Wii ChannelsSelect Wii Shop Channel games and Wii Channels released prior to December 2008 are eligible for Post Play Surveys only. See "Games Released Prior to December 2008" below for a list of the eligible titles. These surveys will appear in your To-Do List 7 days after the download. Your Wii Shop Channel must be linked to your Club Nintendo account to ensure Wii Shop Channel games and Wii Channels appear in your To-Do list.
Wii Shop Channel games and Wii Channels released December 2008 and after are eligible for Post Play Surveys only. These surveys will appear in your To-Do List 7 days after the download. Your Wii Shop Channel must be linked to your Club Nintendo account to ensure Wii Shop Channel games and Wii Channels appear in your To-Do list. Click here for more information on creating the link.
DSiWare DSiWare is eligible for Post Play Surveys only. These surveys will appear in your To-Do List 7 days after the download. Your Nintendo DSi Shop must be linked to your Club Nintendo account to ensure DSiWare appears in your To-Do list (wireless broadband connection required). Click here for more information on creating the link.
There's also a blurb in the FAQ indicating that this applies to retail titles as well!
"The Wii and Nintendo DS games listed below qualify for registration and Post Play surveys. Post Play surveys will appear 7 days after the date the game is registered and the Product Registration survey is completed."
First a new reward and now this. What a nice surprise!! |

Turns out the ESRB has revealed for us what JV Games and Reflexive Entertainment are working on next.
Christmas Clix is the name of the new WiiWare project coming from JV Games which is most definitely their next family-friendly title. It turns out the game is a series of Christmas-themed mini-games. Here's what the summary says: - "This is a collection of Christmas-themed mini-games. Players can match colored presents and ornaments from Santa's bag, collect gingerbread men, and use a stocking to catch falling candy canes."
As for Reflexive Entertainment, we haven't heard from them since their first game, Big Kahuna Party. Turns out they're planning on bringing yet another PC game over to the WiiWare platform. Airport Mania is one of Reflexive Entertainment's most successful titles, having won over 20 awards for the game. It shouldn't be a big surprise that they've decided to make this their next project for the platform. The summary adds a few details: - "This is a simulation game in which players control the flow of airplane traffic and manage everyday tasks related to planes in an airport. Players must guide planes for landing, deplane and board passengers, refuel, tend to maintenance issues, and launch flights in a timely manner."
Hopefully we'll hear official confirmations for both these titles soon! |

This week, Nintendo released big press releases listing the complete line-up of WiiWare and DSiWare releases from now up until the first quarter of 2010. Nintendo released PR's respective to the NA and EU regions and as such, some interesting details surfaced. Most of the entries on the line-up for North America are pretty general sticking to the quarters but Europe's press release is chockful of more useful information, listing expected months for each release. Not only do we have an idea of when certain games will be releasing, but a bunch of new titles have also been revealed in these press releases, further whetting our appetite! See below for the complete listings along with a few side-annotations. Bolds indicate newly-revealed titles that haven't been announced before this press release. Please note that the line-up is missing quite a few titles (My Zoo and Driift Mania for example) so don't follow it to the tee. They seem to be focusing on more simpler concepts for DSiWare. Blockout Art of Balance - New WiiWare title from Shin'en Multimedia; December seems most likely. Wow! I never thought this would come but it looks like Tecmo is making it happen! It really is great to see all these WiiWare titles from Japan come over here (even the less interesting ones). The game will be localized as "Eat! Eat! FIGHT" and will have an E10+ rating for Cartoon Violence and Comic Mischief. More details found in the summary below: - "This is a sumo wrestling game in which players can train and compete in tournament matches in order to become the champion. Players push, shove, and smack opponents in order to knock them out of a ring. Battles can also contain "over-the-top" moves such as flinging an opponent high into the air or ripping off an opponent's belt, which immediately causes to towel to appear to obscure the character's genitals. The game also includes some training mini-games to improve timing and skill: striking rice bales, eating stew to grow bigger and fatter, stomping, and sparring."

I'm happy to report that Amazon has just updated their page for the game with a brand-spanking new boxart, which completely replaces the older boxart with some vibrant new artwork. Just some quick observations on this new boxart. The contrast of the logo against the main background hues works rather well if you ask me. The purples might be a tad overbearing for some but I think they handled it pretty well. I like the effect they have going on here.
I feel like the overall look combines some elements of the boxarts for HP1 and HP2 (particularly when it comes to colours). Interestingly, this is exactly what the gameplay will do as well whilst also adding some brand new gameplay elements.
The usage of the Wii Remotes and Nunchuks looks a lot more like how I envisioned it: a bit more glamorous, and it seems to capture some of the enjoyment of hand markers rather well. It's also great to finally have a guy on the boxart and being featured in a good stance, too. HP1's boxart featured three ladies, HP2 featured one lady with 2 silhouettes in the background. This definitely stands out more than the boxarts for the other games.
I love the subtle incorporation of the Balance Board on the far right. Admittedly, I didn't notice it at first and only noticed it after a second look but it's still well placed nonetheless. The Balance Board logo is well-placed as well and doesn't detract from the overall boxart. It's too bad a Wi-Fi logo is no where to be seen meaning that the game won't be featuring online of any sort which is a tad disheartening but I'm more than willing to forgive them with the amount of content and work they've bumped into this release. It's probably finalized, now, that the Wii version won't be getting DLC like the 360/PS3 versions which is a shame -- hopefully they'll look into it for the future.
I find it interesting the way that on the HP3 Boxart, the panels on the mat for the front dancer has some lighting effects and on the boxart for DDRX2, those same panels have a blue glow. Don't know why they decided to change it up like that but it's not that big of a deal.
I'm actually looking forward to seeing the setup of the back of the box as that could very well be an even stronger selling point but overall, I think they did a good job with the boxart and it looks better than the placeholder boxart they originally had (shown on the left).
Only one month left till this baby gets released! We can definitely expect Konami will show off Hottest Party 3 in the coming weeks leading up to its release. |

Spaceball Revolution developers Virtual Toys sent out a press release about their latest WiiWare release. Spaceball Revolution can now be purchased on the Wii Shop Channel in both North America and Europe for 800 points. It features an intense single player mode with a two player mode centered around an exciting puzzle genre. Rated E for everyone, this title is available exclusively on the Wii.
Full Press Release
MADRID, SPAIN - September 15th, 2009 - Fifteen devilishly challenging levels will test the player in making near-impossible patterns with the help of space energy balls. Time and trajectory-blocking obstacles become the players' nemesis, taking their ability, dexterity and concentration to new limits. The goal is to finish the different levels of the game by copying the shapes that are shown at the back of the screen. In order to copy the shown image, energy balls, thrown by the Wii Remote™, will activate or deactivate squares of the grid upon contact. Time is crucial, and that is proven in this Virtual Toys’ game because the player has a limited time to achieve each shape. After each successful shape, a new pattern is generated making the challenge even more difficult. Throughout the fifteen levels of the game, new obstacles appear including cubes, hoops, laser rays, asteroids, cylinders, pendulums and balls! Each obstacle has unique properties, like being static, mobile, invisible, destroyable and indestructible. The player has to remember every behaviour pattern to evade the obstacles on each throw, ensuring there is maximum time to replicate each shape! The challenges for the players are relentless and they can choose to play the game in two ways: challenge mode, with four different difficulty levels (‘easy’ to ‘expert’) or multi-player mode, where two intrepid players challenge each other in a split-screen sabotaging frenzy! As if the obstacles and enemies are not challenging enough, many “special effects” will make your journey to the end of the game even more difficult, with sudden spins of the world, auto-balls and cosmic cameras all out to disrupt the player’s aim!

Let's start off with the familiars, shall we? First of all, we get a rating of Pop Island -- a puzzle title we already knew about that's heading to DSiWare. Sounds like the game's progressing well, and the summary gives us hints as to the type of gameplay that will be found therein: - "This is an action game in which players run, jump, and spin around "cartoony" islands to collect as many flags as possible. Players can also use power-ups, such as firecrackers or "paper missiles," to slow down their opponents. When hit by a projectile, players cry out and may lose some of the flags they collected."
A rating for Bit.Trip VOID has also popped up in the last few days confirming that Gaijin Games is hard at work with this one and it could very well see a release this month or next. Usually, Bit.Trip games appear rather quickly after they get rated by the ESRB so let's hope that's the same case here: - "This is a rhythm game in which players use a large ball to collect a series of black dots that fly around the screen. Each time a dot is collected, it emits a musical tone that corresponds to the beat of background music."
Now time for some new titles! The first is a party game entitled "iCarly", which is obviously based on the iCarly TV show. The game is heading to Wii also but this listing is separately for the DSi so it's likely that this is a DSi-exclusive title. The game's been rated E for "Comic Mischief". - "This is a collection of mini-games (i.e., party games) based on the iCarly TV show. Mini-games include chopping fruit on a conveyor belt, swatting away greedy hands from a freshly-baked pie, and shooting water at characters emerging behind a couch. In one mini-game, players use a mechanical claw to pop pimples on a character's face."
Skyworks Interactive Inc. seems to be at work with a DSiWare title that hopes to replicate the Skeeball experience on the handheld. The game is known as Arcade Bowling (and so it therefore has a slightly-misleading title to those who may not be as familiar with the game). While this sounds promising, it should be noted that the game has appeared on the iPhone prior to this. It's great to see even more iPhone games transition over to DSiWare. The question is: If the iPhone version is only $1.00, how much will the DSiWare version cost? Summary reads as follows: - "This is a skee ball game in which players roll balls down a narrow alley and up a ramp into designated scoring holes. Players can select different background music tracks, view high scores, and choose between two different gameplay modes."
Looks like Big Blue Bubble is at it again. We haven't heard a peep from them since their last game, Hockey All-Star Shootout (which turned out to be an abysmal game all around). Thankfully, it sounds like they've been working at a game in a completely different direction and with the length of time since we last heard from them, it's likely that this project has been worked on for months. Their upcoming WiiWare game has been confirmed to be Pub Darts; it's been rated E with an additional descriptor for a minor "Alcohol Reference". - This is a darts game in which players can compete in matches of 501, Killers, Cricket, Around the Clock, and Baseball. Players can create their own avatars and select different dart designs to use in the game. Frothy mugs of beer are displayed on a menu screen and in some game environments.

Virtual Toys' next WiiWare entry, Spaceball: Revolution, will be heading to Europe's catalogue tomorrow for their update and will also be hitting North America the following Monday for their update. The promo for the game looks great and it definitely looks like a very promising game! Still no word on pricing but it's likely it'll be priced between 600 and 800 Points if one had to guess. |

Gameloft has recently confirmed that Texas Hold'Em Poker will be heading to NA this coming Monday (September 14th). Interestingly, the game was supposed to be out this past Monday (the 7th) but obviously, things didn't work out. You can check out the trailer for the game below. The game has been out in EU for over a week, priced at 600 points. It's likely we'll get the same pricing, if not, 100 Points cheaper.

Last week we got a confirmation of the dolphin simulation game heading our way and now we get word that the Whack-a-Mole game on Japan's catalogue is heading our way also. Nice! Let's hope more titles from the catalogue are brought over here! Here's the summary: - "Players use a big toy hammer to whack the heads of moles in this action game. When moles get bonked on the head, their eyes get crossed out, then whimper and disappear. The moles sometimes fight back by swiping players with a sword, causing the screen to shake."
