Activision and Hasbro Announce Upcoming BATTLESHIP Video Game

posted 8 Feb 2012 09:24 by Knuckles Sonic8   [ updated 8 Feb 2012 09:34 ]

Minneapolis, MN – February 8, 2012
– Lock, load and prepare for grand oceanic action this spring because Hasbro (Nasdaq: HAS) and Activision Publishing Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI), proudly present the BATTLESHIP™ videogame developed with Double Helix Games.  Inspired by the classic naval strategy game, this seek-and-find adventure is taken to spectacular new heights.  As a stand-alone story from Universal Pictures’ upcoming epic action-adventure of the same name, the BATTLESHIP videogame offers a blend of strategic naval command and first-person action gameplay.

“We’re geared up for an outrageous sea and land conflict with the all new BATTLESHIP videogame,” said David Oxford, Activision Publishing.  “Inspired by the film’s exciting action and stunning backdrop, the game is next-gen naval warfare that thrusts players into the middle of humanity’s last stand against an unfamiliar menace.”

BATTLESHIP follows elite demolitions specialist Cole Mathis as he clashes against an aquatic-based extraterrestrial peril in the sand and sea of the beautiful Hawaiian archipelago.  Trapped in a veritable communications dead zone, Mathis must command the U.S. Navy fleet in a “siege on the sea,” while simultaneously rallying the troops on land for a terrifying “war on the shore.”

“With a BATTLESHIP videogame, we have an amazing opportunity to take our beloved property and give it a modern-day spin,” said Mark Blecher, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Digital Media and Marketing at Hasbro.  “The merging of tactical and action elements immerses players in an epic maritime conflict.  Activision is completely up to the task of delivering a high-intensity thrill ride that’s perfectly suited for today’s console owners.”

Combining naval strategy simulation with first-person shooter gameplay, players fend off the enemy beachside while ordering attacks against their marine counterparts. Seamlessly switching between battlefield and overview “Battle Command” map, the Hasbro game is brought to life as carriers, frigates, cruisers, destroyers, submarines and the legendary USS Missouri Battleship pummel the enemy in a race to strategic points that turn the tide of battle.  The BATTLESHIP videogame is a next-gen marvel perfectly suited to turn nostalgic game junkies into battle-hardened admirals.

The BATTLESHIP videogame, developed by Double Helix for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, arrives in Europe this April and North America this May.  In addition, there will be uniquely designed versions for the Wii™ system from Nintendo, Nintendo 3DS™, and Nintendo DS™ hand-held system developed by Magic Pockets, with more details to come at a later date.  The Nintendo versions are rated E10+ for Everyone 10+ by the ESRB. The PlayStation®3 and Xbox 360® are rated T for Teen by the ESRB. Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D Heads to Nintendo 3DS This February

posted 10 Jan 2012 10:17 by Knuckles Sonic8   [ updated 10 Jan 2012 10:23 ]

Konami Digital Entertainment Inc. today announced METAL GEAR SOLID SNAKE EATER 3D Nintendo 3DS™ will be released on February 21, 2012. METAL GEAR SOLID SNAKE EATER 3D is a reworked update of the original best-selling PlayStation®2 title, bringing the immersive jungle setting to life using the Nintendo 3DS glasses-free 3D imaging system. KONAMI has also confirmed that the new game will also make use of the new Circle Pad Pro accessory, and has revealed the packshot for the first time.

METAL GEAR SOLID SNAKE EATER 3D is set during the Cold War of the 60s, and sees series hero Snake infiltrating the Soviet jungle to bring back a scientist being held against his will. Starting on the outskirts of a military base, the player must use Snake's stealth skills along with the foliage and shade that the jungle offers as cover to infiltrate unseen. As the game progresses, old faces make unwelcome appearances and a series of terrifying boss characters must be defeated before leading up to a dramatic twist that brings Snake face to face with a key figure from his past.

Concealing one's self and sneaking up on guards is central to METAL GEAR SOLID SNAKE EATER 3D,  but the 3D elements are what truly make key boss battles and exploration all the more incredible. Springing to life in an immersive experience, the jungle's dense foliage and craggy outcrops realistically brush past as Snake moves through them and the many creatures that inhabit the terrain interact and attack if disturbed by Snake. Adding to the jungle habitat, creatures within the world can also be killed and stored as rations - highlighting how Snake must also overcome his surroundings while undercover on his mission.

Another addition exclusive to METAL GEAR SOLID SNAKE EATER 3D is an all-new camouflage photography system. Within the game, Snake can alter his ensemble to match and blend in with his immediate environment and the possibilities can range from brick-colored fatigues within buildings, to the classic camouflage khakis of the jungle. Users can now take a picture of real-life items and create a camo suit based on them – although the extent of its effectiveness will vary depending on how well your pictures blend with Snake's environment!

The game also takes full advantage of the split-screen format, enabling easier access to Snake's inventory, which is now located below the main action and also supports gyro synchronization for special actions like balancing on narrow ledges that will draw players further into the world of MGS. Similarly, targeting enemies is now made simpler with the addition of Circle Pad Pro-compatibility, with the second Circle Pad allowing users to target distant foes with ease.

METAL GEAR SOLID SNAKE EATER 3D will be released for Nintendo 3DS on February 21, 2012 in North America.

Zombii Attack Now Available on WiiWare

posted 5 Jan 2012 08:58 by Knuckles Sonic8   [ updated 5 Jan 2012 09:02 ]

EXCELSIOR, Minnesota (JANUARY 5, 2011)
— Gamers Digital in association with Motiviti, have issued a state of video game emergency.  Zombii Attack is an enjoyable virus now available exclusively on Nintendo’s WiiWare™ for 500 Wii Points™. Zombii Attack is a full fledge physics based apocalyptic experience.

The Zombii Attack virus has spread worldwide. The unknown virus brings the dead back to life by triggering the brain’s amygdala which unleashes superhuman amounts of key emotional responses, mainly uncontrollable rage and aggression. The famous Dr. Zii has issued an urgent plea to all surviving gamers to keep on the lookout for a rare subspecies of undead that may harbor a cure.  Time is running out and the undead are multiplying in astronomical numbers. It is video game Darwinism at its most terrifyingly fun.

Those who fall under the infectious spell of Zombii Attack may experience entertaining symptoms of contagion including intense feelings of exhilaration, thunderous releases of laughter and an overwhelming sense of competitive joy as they terminate hordes of hungry undead flesh eaters looking for humans to munch on.

“We at Gamers Digital are issuing a state of emergency. All gamers should aggressively launch frenzied attacks using all environmental items and explosives at their disposal. Use destructible environments to your advantage. Upgrade ammo and defenses regularly. It is said that it is darkest before the dawn, but please keep hope alive because Dr. Zii is racing to find a cure using a very rare type of zombii that potentially harbors a cure,” said Scott Zerby, president of Gamers Digital.

Armed with a powerful slingshot, survivors must wield strategic aiming and uncompromising force in their crusade against zombii hordes through 18 mayhem filled levels using the Wii Remote™.  At shops, survivors who have executed creative kills and collected samples from rare subspecies of zombii should spend hard earned cash to upgrade arsenal and fortify defenses.

“As the Zombii Attack continues please remember that you are faced with two options, launch or lunch.  Thanks to the Unity game engine, survivors should use destructible environments, deadly anvils, heavy tires, highly-explosive z-bombs and even the undead to their strategic advantage. It is the only way to survive at this time,” said Tadej Gregorcic, CTO of the development studio Motiviti.

When Zombii Attack’s infectious fun takes over, the only known cure is to recognize the warning signs, arm your slingshot, reinforce your defenses and enjoy laying waste to all the attacking zombies before they eat you. Lunch or launch, it’s up to you.

Zombii Attack is rated “E10+” by the ESRB. For more information on Zombii Attack, please visit http://www.gamersdigital.com

The first project at Square Enix Montréal will be to work on a new premium quality game in the award-winning HITMAN® franchise. This further investment will expand the vision for the HITMAN franchise and mean that two studios will now be working on future HITMAN games: IO Interactive, a Square Enix studio based in Copenhagen, creator of the HITMAN franchise is currently developing HITMAN ABSOLUTION™ and now Square Enix Montréal also.

"Montréal is a vibrant centre of game creators with industry-leading talent, and one of the most important bases of our global network of game development within the Square Enix Group," said Yoichi Wada, president and chief executive officer, SQUARE ENIX HOLDINGS CO., LTD.

“We believe in creating studios where passion for our games and gaming runs throughout and Eidos-Montréal is testament to this vision. The start up of a second studio brings a huge advantage to our business; we will nurture two separate studios with their own strengths, culture and appeal,” said Phil Rogers, president and chief executive officer of Square Enix Europe. “All of this has been made possible by our fantastic partners in Invest Quebec and Montréal International and we look forward to continuing our excellent working relationship with them.”

Montréal International, whose mission includes attracting foreign investment to the Greater Montréal region, assisted the company at every key project step. “We will continue to support the development of both Square Enix studios and contribute to their success and growth in Greater Montréal, particularly by helping them recruit the talent they need,” noted President and CEO of Montréal International, Jacques St-Laurent.

“In just four years Eidos-Montréal has achieved great success in delivering a top-selling and highly acclaimed first game, a feat only few other development studios share,” said Stephane D’Astous, general manager, Eidos-Montreal. “We look to continue this high level of quality with future studio titles by providing our employees with a dynamic working environment, compelling projects and cutting edge resources and facilities, with the support of strong governmental partners.”

“I’ve worked in games all of my life, it’s what I know and what I love and to be able to bring that passion and experience to Square Enix Montréal is very exciting,” added Lee Singleton, general manager of Square Enix Montréal. “I want to create a studio that attracts passionate people, encourages innovation and gets the best out of the studio talent by empowering teams to make a difference.”
